Patricia Valcarcel, MS
Wildlife Biologist

Ms. Valcarcel earned her MS in Wildlife Sciences while conducting research on the spatial ecology of the federally threatened Giant Gartersnake. She has worked on a variety of field research projects ranging from animal movement to behavior and reproduction. She has presented her work at many conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of The Wildlife Society, American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, and the Society for Northwestern Vertebrate Biology.
Ms. Valcarcel has extensive experience working with Giant Gartersnakes in the Sacramento Valley performing mark-recapture surveys and radio-tracking of individuals. She also has several years of experience conducting frog egg mass and call surveys both in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Northwest. Other projects Ms. Valcarcel has assisted with include mark-recapture surveys for San Francisco Gartersnakes, data collection on Channel Island Fox reproductive behavior, and the creation of population modelling software for small and captive populations. Ms. Valcarcel has had training in amphibian inventory and monitoring survey protocol, aquatic plant identification, and ecological restoration. Her primary responsibilities at WRA include conducting habitat assessments and surveys for special status wildlife species and preparing technical reports.
