Robert Schell, BS
Wildlife Biologist
Mr. Schell received a BS degree in Evolution and Ecology with a minor in Avian Science from the University of California at Davis. He received training in wildlife ecology, invasive species ecology, herpetology, ornithology, raptor biology, and wildlife-habitat interactions. He is experienced in the preparation of biological resource assessments, Section 7 biological assessments, national environmental studies, and various wildlife technical reports. Mr. Schell currently holds Recovery Permits from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for California Red-legged Frog, California Tiger Salamander, and vernal pool branchiopods. He maintains a California Scientific Collection Permit, and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Mr. Schell is a member of the The Wildlife Society, Western Field Ornithologists, Western Bat Working Group and the Amphibian Population Task Force.
Mr. Schell’s environmental consulting work includes conducting protocol level surveys for federally threatened and endangered species including California Clapper Rail, California Tiger Salamander, California Red-legged Frog, vernal pool branchiopods and Bay checkerspot butterfly. Mr. Schell also has experience collecting and analyzing invertebrates according to the California Stream Bioassessment Procedure. He is responsible for conducting biological habitat assessments and surveys for special status wildlife species including Western Burrowing Owl, California Black Rail, Foothill Yellow-legged Frog, Western Pond Turtle, bats (roost surveys and ultrasonic acoustic surveys) and breeding migratory birds. He has also performed habitat assessments for Least Bell’s Vireo and Southwestern Willow Flycatcher; conducted stream habitat typing in accordance with the California Salmonid Restoration Manual; participated in electrofishing mark-recapture surveys; relocated Steelhead trout; conducted small mammal trapping, and invasive species control.
