Amanda McCarthy, PhD
Senior Associate Plant/ Wetland Ecologist

Dr. McCarthy is a plant ecologist specializing in writing permit applications, delineating wetlands, mapping and describing habitats, coordinating protocol-level rare plant surveys, and analyzing environmental impacts under CEQA. She has been involved in environmental review and restoration projects throughout California for both public and private groups. In the saline Owens Valley region, she helped develop mitigation and monitoring protocols for air pollution reduction for the City of Los Angeles, and has worked extensively within the Mojave and Great Basin Deserts. Dr. McCarthy has wide-ranging experience in California plant species identification within coastal, chaparral, grassland, and desert ecosystems, and is trained in lichen identification, bryology, phycology, and mycology. Additionally, she has formal training in soils, hydrology, vegetation mapping, and environmental regulations related to CEQA, NEPA, and the Endangered Species Act.
Dr. McCarthy has conducted several large-scale rare plant surveys and has documented the habitat types present within project areas for numerous environmental impact reports throughout California. She has extensive training conducting formal wetland delineations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the California Coastal Commission and has completed the entire suite of regulatory permit applications for a number of projects. She brings a keen eye and ecological background to every project, working collaboratively with clients to efficiently navigate the environmental and regulatory review process.
