Gretchen C. Coffman,

Dr. Coffman has 16 years of experience in planning, design, construction, and monitoring of riparian and wetland restoration/mitigation projects. Throughout her career, she has worked on delineation, classification, and functional analysis of jurisdictional wetlands/waters of the U.S and associated 404 Clean Water Act nationwide and individual permitting. Dr. Coffman has conducted vegetation and invasive species mapping in many habitats throughout California. In addition, she has conducted biological and ecological surveys of vegetation, birds, benthic invertebrates, mammals, and fish, including special status plant and animal surveys. She managed numerous NEPA/CEQA projects and prepared environmental assessment reports for river/riparian restoration, highway widening and rerouting, water transfer projects, and reservoir sitings. As a graduate research assistant at UCLA, she helped prepare several watershed assessment planning and management studies in Southern California. Dr. Coffman has conducted environmental water chemistry and sediment sampling in rivers, salt marshes, and estuaries for nine years as part of remediation and research projects. She has expertise in statistical analysis of restoration monitoring data and development of experimental design.
Dr. Coffman teaches courses in wetland delineation and wetland restoration ecology at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies. In addition, she continues to conduct research in the areas of wetland and riparian restoration ecology and invasion biology at the University of California.
