Derek Chan,
BA
GIS Technician

Mr. Chan received his BA in Geography with an emphasis in Geographic Information Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His studies in Geography focused on GIS, remote sensing, and cartographic design. Mr. Chan has extensive experience analyzing aerial imagery, and is proficient in several geographic applications, including ArcGIS, ENVI, and Google Earth. Mr. Chan also has experience utilizing GPS and GIS technologies in assessment and remediation projects and for native habitat restoration and trail assessments for the National Park Service.
Mr. Chan produces maps and figures that integrate GIS and CAD platforms for rare plant and wildlife species studies, environmental impact assessment, wetland delineations and assessment, permits and regulation, mitigation and restoration, and resource mapping and analysis projects. For projects such as the Idaho-Maryland Mine Delineation and Permitting (Grass Valley), and the Sunrise Powerlink Impact Analysis (San Diego/Imperial County), Mr. Chan applied the ArcGIS Hydrology suite of tools on USGS Digital Elevation Model datasets to determine watershed boundaries, and model erosional stream corridors.
